Congratulations go out to Michiyo Wellington-Oguri for being named the most outstanding graduate of 2012 for the Computer Science Department. Michiyo entered SDSU in 2010 and was immediately recognized as an outstanding CS major. Michiyo worked in Dr. Rob Edwards’ bioinformatics lab where she teamed up with Post Doc Dr. Bas Dutilh to develop a brand new method to identify which animals, plants, or bacteria different viruses infect. This will have important impact on human and animal health. After graduating, Michiyo took an internship at Sally Ride Science, a company which encourages interest in science and scientific careers to children. She chose Dr. Edwards as her most influential faculty member for his mentorship in both academics and research.
