The Department of Computer Science seeks an outstanding scholar to chair the Department starting in Fall 2017. We anticipate multiple new faculty hires in the next five years and seek a dynamic leader to move the department forward.
We seek candidates with an active and vibrant research program. Candidates must have a PhD in computer science or a related discipline with credentials commensurate with the appointment at the rank of Full Professor. The ideal candidate has an outstanding record of scientific accomplishments and administrative leadership as well as the ability to recruit, mentor and retain diverse research-intensive faculty, maintain a collegial and ethical environment, and work with students of diverse backgrounds.
The Department is on an upward trajectory with annual research expenditures growing to an average of $1M/year over the last three years. Research strengths include machine learning, robotics, bioacoustics, storage systems, wireless networks, bioinformatics, and medical informatics. The Department offers BS and MS degrees in Computer Science to around 600 undergraduate students and 170 graduate students. The Department has 12 tenure-track faculty and 3 lecturers (http://cs.sdsu.edu/). The San Diego region is a large metropolitan area that hosts a wide variety of high-tech companies including the communication and biotech industries, providing extensive opportunities for collaboration with industry.
