The Advanced Certificate in Web and Mobile Applications Development is a new certificate program offered by the Department of Computer Science and SDSU World Campus. The certificate program provides students with the specialized knowledge that is important in the development of Web and mobile computer applications. Students will study and gain experience with the languages and frameworks that are most commonly used in developing these applications, with the design of user interfaces and software systems, and with associated topics such as networking, hosting infrastructure, and security. They will also learn the fundamental principles on which these topics are based, so that they will be prepared for the new technologies that are constantly being developed.

Development for Apple’s iOS devices (iPhone/iPad) are covered in the fall semester and development for Android devices is covered in the spring semester. Web development is covered in both the fall and spring semesters.

This is an advanced academic certificate at the postbaccalaureate level. The courses are taught by regular SDSU Computer Science faculty, and adhere to the same high standards as any of our other graduate-level courses. The certificate requires completion of at least four courses (12 units) from the six courses available, selected with the approval of the program advisor. At least two of the four courses must be at the 600 level. You can see a list of courses by clicking the “Courses” tab above.  Courses must be completed with a 3.0 gpa or higher in order to earn the certificate.

Consult with your graduate advisor to see whether courses taken in this certificate program may be applied toward the Master’s degree in Computer Science.

In order to earn the advanced certificate, you must apply and be admitted to SDSU.  Visit our Applying to the Program  page for more information on how to apply.

These courses can also be taken individually, without applying to the certificate program. If you are just interested in one or two courses or even all of them but don’t care about receiving the certificate that is possible for you to do. You just need to register for the courses through the CES web site and pay the course fees.

Once you have completed all four courses please contact Leland Beck (beck@sdsu.edu) so we can submit the proper paperwork to grant you the certificate.
